Banovallum Forces Champions
Dear parent/guardian,
Introducing Banovallum Forces Champions.
The Department for Education (DfE) introduced the Service Pupil Premium (SPP) in April 2011 in recognition of the specific challenges children from Service families face. As a school we would like to offer pastoral support during challenging times and to help mitigate the negative impact on Service children of family mobility or parental deployment.
On behalf of Banovallum school I have volunteered to take on this role and lead our Forces Champion group. As a forces partner of 28 years and mother of three, I have experienced the impact that military life can have on our family, and I feel a small amount of intervention can make a significant difference to the student's wellbeing.
To offer appropriate support, please let school know if a deployment is imminent or there is change in circumstance so that we can provide extra provision should it be required. I recognise some of our young people will be very used to this unique life dynamic, but as a team we should be ensuring this does not impact on our students academically or emotionally. As part of my role, I will be offering drop-in sessions (to make connections and support with detachments), welfare spot checks and a hub to disseminate information. Feel free to contact me via school email [email protected]
Kind regards Mrs H Holmes
